Independent Rating: Not Rated Self Accredited Rating: Not Rated The anachady Bungalow was built in 1912 and is set up on a hill, atop a site, which was once a flocking area of elephants. The bungalow has steeply-pitched tiled roofs. Inside there is a heavy cut-stone arch, which separate the living room from the dining room. On the north and the south ends are the bedrooms. The northern bedrooms are for the guests from which one can enjoy the full view of the mountain ranges. A long span of glass windows run across the northeastern side of the bungalow. The Bungalow is far from the madding crowd and well isolated for the true peace seekers, who are ready to shed a bit of their comforts for experiencing the fruits of solitude.

The drive up through the rough winding roads is often a little tough. The road reaches the bungalow site from the foot of the hill winding through the mixed plantations of tea and rubber.

The other attractions here include visits to many waterfalls in and around the valley, the best being palaruvi. Do not miss the visit to the elephant cage at Konny where you can see the mahouts teaching and training young elephants. In the Govt. timber depots you can watch elephants working in timber stacking. There lies the suspended bridge at Punalur, which is a masterpiece of suspension bridge engineering, built in 1877 by the English. This bridge is still intact and stands proudly across the river. The Kollam-Shengotta meterguage rail track is a glorious reminiscence of the colonial past and its cut rock arch bridges and tunnels are still functioning and well-maintained.

The Ambanad Estate is a large mixed plantation of tea and rubber, consisting of undulating terrains and panoramic views of mountains and valleys. A walk through the plantations will help to get a first hand knowledge of tea and rubber plantation and processing.
