Independent Rating: Not Rated Self Accredited Rating: Not Rated A sumptuous colonial guesthouse with unbeatable views through swaying coconut palms to the Arabian Sea.Built in 1862 by Murdoch Brown, a tradesman from the East India Company, and bought in 1900 by the Moosas, a local family of Muslim spice traders who still run it today, the place oozes history. Antique furniture and family heirlooms decorate the spacious rooms, and a houseboy can accompany you on trips to a 6km long tropical beach, the fruit markets of Thalacherry, or the cinnamon plantation set up by Murdoch himself. These same local ingredients make Faiza Moosa’s gourmet dinners.

Tellicherry - a small town in the North Keralar, was once the largest and most famous trading centre for spices, especially Pepper the most favoured and sought after spice in Europe. Tellicherry Pepper can still be bought of the supermarket shelves in Europe and is renowned for its pungency and flavour!!

This old colonial style mansion overlooking the famous Arabian sea. This bungalow was built in 1862 by Murdoch Brown , an Englishman who came to Tellicherry as a trader of the East India company. Murdoch Brown set up a 300 acre Cinnamon gardens largest in Asia, 10 kms away from this house , which still exists and is the only one of it's kind in the country.

Formerly known as " Judges Bungalow " the present house was renamed as "Ayesha Manzil " in 1900 when it was bought by T.M. Moosa a local Muslim timber trader. Today his grandson C.P. Moosa invites you to holiday in Tellicherry to stay at his home and sample the warm hospitality, fantastic traditional cuisine with the emphasis on the fresh seafood and local culture which so fascinated the travelers of yore.

Mrs.Faiza Mooza  (who is also your joint host Ayesha Manzil) of better hap is internationally renowned for her Mappila cuisine - Keralan Islamic cooking. The food can be very hot and spicy and is completely different to other types of Indian food. You can begin your day here with an early morning trip to the fish market and spice merchant and end it with a wonderful feast. The surrounding area is beautiful with a long, almost deserted beach nearby where you can walk off the meals. Evening you can be a part of a cookery demonstration by the internationally famous Mrs Faiza Moosa - A truely Kerala cullinery experience

In addition to eating and swimming, visit the huge cinnamon plantation (Asia's largest) founded nearly 150 years ago by the original owner of the house, Murdoch Brown; hire a bike and cycle along the coast; and watch the evening Theyyam dance rituals at Parasinikkadavu Muthappan Temple.
