Based on a framework of home grown wisdom and intuition, it was established by Vaidyan C N Namboodiri in 1933. The center aims at promoting Ayurveda without compromising on its age-old principles.

Dhanwanthari Vaidyashala maintains and manages hospitals in Thodupuzha, Thiruvanathapuram, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Kannur. Established over a decade ago, these hospitals provide quality care services to the public at affordable costs. Over 45 experienced doctors render their services here. These hospitals have full-fledged treatment facilities in and out - patient departments in various specialties.

Traditional methodology for Ayurvedic medicine preparation is maintained at Dhanwanthari Vaidyasala. The recommended vessels, ambient temperature and manufacturing methods are adhered to as specified centuries ago. But modern technology is adopted in processing stages like disintegration, pulverisation and preservation of 'Kashayam'.

At Dhanwanthari, quality assurance methods are adopted for evaluating over 500 raw materials that are used. Streamlined processing is done under the supervision of qualified doctors and by experienced labourers at functional units to ensure processing quality. Modern and traditional analytical skills are put to use in testing quality worthiness and shelf life of the products.
