Pachamedu Bungalow 

Built in 1922, Pachamedu Bungalow stands tall, pitched steeply and sheet-roofed on a site overlooking the Periyar valley. The bungalow is also known as Pandavarmedu in reference to the five heroic Pandava brothers from Mahabharata-the great Indian epic by Vyasan.

A drive up a blind curve passing a natural landscape dotted with bushes takes you to the premises of the bungalow .The bedrooms of the bungalow are huge and and well -furnished in Victorian or mid-Victorian styles. There are large balconies opening from the bedrooms with a long sight to the valley across. The immaculately laid wooden flooring is still a rare piece of artistic and architectural workmanship. The hall of the bungalow opens into a narrow but long corridor, the attention resting upon the thick wooden staircase immaculately done in a spiral style. The contours of the handrails of the staircase are worth a feel. The bungalow is designed with a study, a morning room , a bay-windowed sit out with large French windows, which offer unhindered view of the multi-hued garden margins with the huge trees homing innumerable birds.

The bungalow is surrounded by fruit bearing trees such as butter fruit, grape fruit and many spices, which spreads around the flavors of nature. Being a majority tea estate with random cultivation of coffee, pepper and almost all kinds of indigenous spices around, a casual nature walk around the estate will be the best best. Guided treks can also be arranged to nearby sports of interest.
