Elephants hold a very prestigious position in Kerala's culture. The elephants are loved and revered and an important element of festivals. The annual festivals of temples see the elephants carry the deity. This holiday, you can make a short trip to kodanadu, which is home to the elephant sanctuary.

You will be driven to Kodanad from Fort Cochin, a riverside village which is also a famous halt for tourists. This is the sole elephant rescue and training centre for the benefit of baby elephants who are stranded. While you are at Kodanad, you can take up adventurous elephant safaris. The elephants are prepared for the festival by placing a wooden saddle on top.

Elephant safari is both refreshing and adventurous and gives a splendid opportunity to the traveller to venture through tough terrains. This will also give you a slice of life from the times kings used to rule.
