Agraharams
Agraharams
“Agraharam”means "a garland of houses".
In an agraharam houses line either side of the road. The temple to the presiding deity is in the centre. Thus it resembles a garland around the temple.
The old order of life has changed. Brahmins are not restricted to their old way of life . They are moving away from the agraharams to towns and cities in search of better prospects.
Many of the traditional houses are giving way to concrete structures and commercial buildings.
Agraharams are found in South India mainly in Tamil Nadu, Palakkad and in many places in Karnataka.
