The cruise along the backwaters will unravel the beauty of the exceptional flora and fauna of the backwaters , the underwater paddy fields of R block and C block waterways and the fabled bird sanctuary of Pathiramanal island among others. Experience the slow pace of rural life and be one among the village folks to soak up the essence of the rural heartland of Kerala. You would see traditional fishermen going about their daily business in small kayaks while the mussel pickers plunge into the waters to come up with pail full of mussel – a delicacy among locals and tourists alike. The ancient Champakulam Church and the homestead of the Blessed Kuriakose Elias, Chavara Bhavan are some of the other must see spots in this circuit. The ashram of the Hindu sanyasin, Mata Amritanandamayi are also of special tourist interest.
You can see flocks of ducks being herded to pastures and boats ferrying farmers and school children. Do not miss out the interesting sight of the toddy tapper who climbs up the coconut palms along the lakeside in lightening speed to tap toddy- the local brew of Kerala. Some of the other typical sights along the backwaters include village kids making merry in the shallow backwaters and the famous Chinese nets in operation.
The brief stop overs of the boat along the villages can be used up to get a hang of the village life and its people famous for their ear to ear grin. The teeming village markets and the ancient temples where festivals and fairs happen almost everyday are some of the other leisure activities. Sample a bottle of freshly tapped toddy from any of the shops in the village or spend some time with your fishing rod. Plunge headlong into the cool waters to enjoy a spell of swimming or join the locals in fishing. Options galore and all you need to do is to make your pick to suit your mood.
Onboard you will be served tea with snacks and a typical Kerala dinner. Hit the sundeck to enjoy the sunset, after which the houseboat will move to the banks to get be moored for the night. Enjoy a traditional Kerala dinner before retiring for the day. For those who want to push the fun tide can indulge in indoor games or listen to your favorite music under the starlit sky on the upper deck. Early risers can enjoy the sunrise at its best. You will be served a traditional Kerala breakfast before the cruise starts.
