Shalimar Spice Garden is a subtle blend of European and Indian lifestyles topped off with the rich heritage of Kerala.The resort borders fragrant spice gardens, cardamom-covered hills, and an exciting flora and fauna of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.Located at a height of 800 metres,the straw-roofed cottages are simple yet comfortable. The resort is set amidst bright green palm groves and thickly wooded gardens where fruit bearing plants like mangoes, nutmeg and cardamom flourish. A small mountain stream winds its way through the resort and a wooden bridge connects the resort to the outside world.

The Spice Garden Resort is designed by an Italian architect, Maria Angela Fernhof, and her Indian partner, Shaji Antony, the cottages flaunt thatched roofs and some intricately carved teak and rosewood door frames procured from the traditional Kerala homesteads. Shalimar's cottages are built with thatched roofs, some with teak and rosewood door frames salvaged from the region's traditional "Tharavad" houses. All rooms have luxurious en-suite bathrooms and private terraces.

The in-house restaurant of the resort, ' Falling Leaves' dishes out the choicest cuisines made from fresh organic produce sourced from private gardens.
