Literally, the Sanskrit word for "fate".

Westerners tend to believe in seizing the day (aka carpe diem) whilst Indians tend to go with the flow. The cause of this attitude is the deep seated belief in karma, the belief that what you will do in this life will affect your subsequent lives.
