BALARAMA

Balarama is the brother of Krishna. He is considered as an ideal man and god with abundant strength. He is the divinity of strength and a symbol of honesty, simplicity and duty.

Vishnu incarnated as Balarama following the request of Indra and other gods for release from the demon son Kamsa, king of Mathura. Vishnu took two hairs – one black and one white – from his head and said this two will finish the demons. The white hair was Balarama and the black hair was Lord Krishna. Both were incarnated in the womb of Devaki. To save Balarama from the clutches of Kasma, Balarama was covertly transferred from the womb of Devaki to the womb of Rohini from which he was born. Balarama and Krishna grew up in the family of a cowherd.

Balarama killed the demon Dharuka and helped Krishna to kill Kamsa. Balarama was instrument in releasing Krishna’s son Samba from Duryodhan’s custody
