Brahma
BRAHAMA
Brahma, Vishnu, Mahaeshwara (Shiva), the trio, have taken upon themselves three cardinal tasks. Accordingly, Brhama is the creator, Vishnu the preserver, Shiva the destroyer.
Brahma has many sons – mind-born and body-born. Seer, Marichi, Atri, Angiras, Palasty, Pulaha, Kartuj, Vasishta, Briga and Narada are mind-born. Daksha, Dharma, Karma, Anger, Greed, Delusion, Lust, Joy, Death and daughter Angaja are body-born.
For creating the Universe and human race he made a goddess with one half woman and the other half man. He named the goddess Gayatri, also known as Saraswati.
The five-headed Brahma lost one head due to his own misdeeds. Brahma posted love on his daughter. The ashamed daughter kept away from the father. Brahma had practiced constant Tapas (panacea) to create the Universe. The inert power of Tapas was decimated by his ill-wish towards the daughter. On hearing of the unholy desire of Brahma, Vishnu questioned him when he said all this is a mere hear-say and not true. The lie utterance of Brahma infuriated Vishnu. He caused the loss of one head of the Brahma and thus the five-headed Brahma became four-headed. Hearing the episode connecting Brahma and his daughter, Shiva and Parvati too became angry towards Brahma.
The Vedas (holy scripts) – totally 4 in Hindu epics – were sprang from the 4 heads – one from each – of the Brahma.
