AROMATHERAPY
Aromatherapy plays an important role in ayurveda treatments. This branch of ayurveda is gaining more popularity amongst the nationals and intternationals. Yet a large chunk of people are still unaware of its great benefits.
Aromatherapy means treatment by using aroma (scent). This invaluable essential oil is extracted from herbs, shrubs, flowers, spices, plants, trees, leaves, leaves, roots and seeds. Aroma therapy helps improve physical, mental and emotional strength apart from curing various ailments.
The mode of aroma therapy is external application and inhalation. In external application the tiny pores of the skin absorb the oils and subsequently pass on to the blood stream. After getting to the body through blood they engage in three-pronged action. The three actions are pharmacological, physiological and psychologicalbased. The blood acts as the carrier of chemicals in the body. The chemicals, in turn, congenially react with body chemistry when relief is resulted.
The oils used are certain and specific in action and some have modulating power to act in particular areas of the body.
In inhalation aromatic waves are sent to limbic system of the brain which will have direct impact on mind and emotions.
The aromatherapy is applied in different ways. They are massage, bathing, steam inhalation, creams and lotions applications, shampoos application, gurgles and mouthwash, douches, compresses and heat application. Out of these, massage and bathing are widely applied, while heat application is the least applied.
Aromatherapy can be undertaken in any physical condition and by any age group. It is particularly beneficial to the persons afflicted by cancer and AIDS in addition to pregnant women, aged and children. This branch of ayurveda is a sure shot against muscular and rheumatic pains, stress related disorders, menstrual problems, digestive problems, menopausal complaints, insomnia and depression.
