Rheumatic arthritis and osteo arthritis are the main arthritis though several types have been identified, but all of them related rheumatic and osteo.

Reumatic : It is an auto-immune disorder in which the body produces some proteins capable of attacking body tissues. This sets in younger stage itself in many cases.

Swelling in the joints is the first symptom. In advanced stage joints take stiff form in the morning and relax later as the day progresses. The fingers deviate towards little finger and/or deform the joints. This too occurs in advanced stage only.

Osteo : Osteo-arthritis, a degenerative disease, attacks aged people. It causes wear and tear to the cartilege which cushions the two articulating bones at a joint.

The initial symptom is pain in the joints while walking or squatting. Creaking or cracking sound in the joints when the patient is in motion comes as symptoms in later stage.

Remedies :

a) Drink 50 ml bitter gourd juice twice a day and apply the same juice in the joints twice a day in the case of rheumatic.

b) Apply the mixture of oils of lemon grass, sesame and winter green in equal proportion in the case of osteo.

c) For both the cases application of mustard oil in the joints and consumption of foods prepared with mustard oil are good.

d) Make paste of 5 gm ginger added with it one teaspoon gooseberry powder and one teaspoon of jaggery. Consume the same twice a day. This is good for both rheumatic and osteo.

e) Consume 2 teaspoons of buffalo ghee twice a day for both rheumatic and osteo.

f) Drink a cup of boiled and warm buffalo milk added with 8-10 garlic (crushed) cloves. This is good for both varieties of arthritis.

Precautions :

a) Prepare the food items with ginger, garlic, asafetida and turmeric.

b) Exrercise or walk for 30-45 minutes a day.

c) Reduce weight by dieting and aoiding intake of sweets.

d) Avoid curds, buttermilk, idli, dosa, bread, tamarind, potato, brinjals etc.
