Coronary Artery Disease & Ayurveda
When arteries supplying blood to the heart muscles become narrow and hard CAD (coronary artery disease) occurs. Excess cholesterol in the blood gets deposited in the walls of arteries. Over a period of time these deposits become thicker and harder and narrow the arteries. These deposits are called plaque. The build up of plaque is termed termed atherosclerosis. The lumen of the artery is narrowed and hardened and its elasticity is lost because of atherosclerosis. Due to this thickening of the plaque the arteries are unable to expand and contact.
Smoking, drinking, bad cholesterol, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, lack of exercise, stress, heredity etc play a huge role in contributing to the narrowing process of the arteries.
Chest pain is the main symptom. In many cases the chest pain will radiate to the hand, back, lower jaw and upper abdomen. Sweating, breathlessness etc are also included among the symptoms.
