DIAMOND TOURISM
Kerala has opened yet another tourism front: Diamond Tourism. It is a rare combination of diamonds and tourism, most exhilarating, especially from European countries point of view. The scheme is simple but exciting free holiday package. A prospective customer can avail all expenses paid one week tourism five-star holiday package when he buys diamond jewellery worth 7000 Euros in European market from Kerala at the same price or even little lower. If the jewellery purchased is of more value the number of days of holiday package will be increased and if the value is less the days will be correspondingly decreased. The initiator of the scheme is Sunny Diamonds of Kochi with the support and encouragement of Kerala Tourism Department.
The methodology is simple. Sunny Diamonds source diamonds reserves in Antwerp in Belgium and converts them to jewellery by their own expert craftsmen. The labour cost involved for Kerala craftsmen is much lower than in European countries. This creates vast difference in the cost of end product in Kerala, the difference being just over half. This difference of cost is passed on to the customer by way of free holiday package.
Facility is accorded to the tourist-customer to evaluate the quality of the diamonds and observe the intricacies of their manufacturing in the showroom of Sunny Diamonds.
