[edit] Kuttichira
Kuttichira is a place of historical importance it was the main square in the calicut urban area from 14 th century. There are several mosques around the place which is formed around a tank. The construction of the mosques here are all based on traditional timber construction with tiered roofs. Here the inhabitants are belonging to the Muslim traders.
The attractive thing about the mosques found here is they are still preserved in their original form without any renovations. They still retain their multi-tiered roofs distinguished by gracefully angled teak beams, slotted screens and carved gables, which are typical of Kerala architecture. These moppila mosques rank among some of the most handsome antique buildings in South India. The stone inscriptions found in the Mosques here tells the history of the Zamorins of Kozhikode. The floral carvings and geometric designs found here resembles to that of a typical Hindu temple with pillars and ventilators. All this makes this historic place a treat to watch.
