Dr. Thomas Varughese is a distinguished Cancer Surgeon, trained at the premier cancer hospital in India – The TATA Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai. He has gained extensive experience of cancer surgery from the best cancer institutes abroad like Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (world’s biggest cancer hospital) – New York (USA); M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital – Houston, Texas (USA); Johns Hopkins University – Baltimore (USA); George Washington Hospital – Washington D.C. (USA); Peter Mc Callum Cancer Hospital Melbourne – Australia etc., to name a few. He was heading the Surgical Oncology department of Medical Mission Hospital, Kolenchery prior to joining Lakeshore.
Liver Clinic
The Liver Clinic is a multidisciplinary treatment center offering the seamless integration of medical, surgical, radiological and oncology expertise in caring for patients with liver disease. This center is designed to work closely with referring physicians and supplement their care by offering specialized consultation and assessment in the area of liver disease. The Liver Clinic offers comprehensive services to patients with acute, chronic, and end-stage liver diseases. These services are achieved through a well-coordinated team of experts working within the center. The clinical core of the Liver Clinic consists of three components: the outpatient practice, inpatient consultations and liver transplant evaluation and support.
Expert Management
The liver clinic offers consultation and management of patients with acute and chronic liver diseases. Expert management of viral hepatitis, including hepatitis B and C, other liver diseases such as alcoholic liver disease, hemochromatosis, alpha-1-antitrypsin disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, autoimmune, and cholestatic liver diseases are available. Procedures for the management of chronic liver disease including esophageal variceal banding ligation, and tumor obliteration is available. Chronic management of metabolic liver diseases is provided. The clinics is available for follow up of patients with chronic liver diseases, including hepatitis C, hepatitis B, alcoholic liver disease, cirrhosis, PBC, PSC and hepatoma. Expertise can be provided for evaluation of abnormal liver tests, liver transplant evaluation and liver biopsy.
Hepatitis B & C
The clinic offers an extensive program for antiviral treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C. Study protocols are available for patients who have contracted hepatitis C. The clinic also provides evaluation for liver transplant for patients with acute and chronic liver conditions.
