Lakshadweep at a glance
The smallest Union Territory Lakshadweep is group of coral islands situated in the Arabian Sea. It comprises of 2 atolls, three reefs and five submerged banks. Out of its island only 12 are inhabited, the language spoken here is Malayalam. The people of Minicoy, the southernmost atoll, speak Mahl, the language of the Maldives.
The lifestyle and traditions of the inhabitants here is similar to that of the Malayali (people of Kerala). It's about 220 to 440 Km from the coastal city of Cochin in Kerala. The islands is small but has an area of 4200 Sq Km and 20000 Sq Km of territorial waters. The island is rich in minerals and natural resource, the place is also a tourist hub in almost all season.
