Mankada is located on Perinthalmanna-Manjeri Road. Malappuram district has few Kovilakams (residences of kings). All the Kovilakams are heritage marvels. Mankada Kovilakam belonged to Valluvanad Kings, is one of them. The negligence of maintenance is writ large on it. Padippura (shelter at the entrance to courtyard) is crumbling. The splendid teak pillars in the wide Verandha (outer portion of the structure, with no walls) are a feast for the mind and eyes. No inhabitants at present. The new generation of the former inhabitants is staying in new buildings nearby.
