MATANQI
Incarnated as the daughter of Matang Rishi (sage), Matanqi is another form of Saraswati. One of the ten Mahavidyas, Matanqi is born in a backward caste called Chandala. Though Matang is from a backward cast, he wished to achieve Brahminhood through Karma (duty). The prolonged sincere worship of Indra and subsequently of Saraswati, resulted in becoming Saraswati his daughter-incarnated. A feat and result similar to the Brahmins and thus Matang Muni (sage) equalled Brahmins.
Matanqi is one of the ten Mahavidyas. Kali, Tara, Shodashi, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Chinnamasta, Kamala, Dhumavati and Bagla Mukhi are the rest nine. Mahavidyas are the manifestations of Divine Mother. Mahavidyas are regarded as Vidyas (knowledge), particularly tantric Vidyas.
Matanqi is radiant like moon. She is worshipped mainly for command over knowledge, creativity and speech.
