Discharge from eye, nose, ear, illness of heavy head, heavy neck, pain in the ear, eyes, hiccups, spasm in the jaw and neck, toothache, hair loss, chocked voice and many more are curable disorders by smoking. Smoking also cleanses the chest, throat and sense organs and controls doshas of vata, pitta and kapha dominated in the regions of head, neck and chest and lightens the head. Smoking is recommended after bath, teeth brushing and meals. Recommended dose is three times each time. The frequency depends on the nature and intensity of the disorder.
Excess smoking may cause internal bleeding, dizziness, blindness and deafness.
In certain conditions smoking results in ill-effects. Such conditions are pregnancy, fatigue, purgation, blood-letting, diabetes, injury, poisoning, alcoholism and after consuming food with curd, fatty substances, milk and honey.
Smoking material is made from plants. Thirty plants like kesara, guggulu, elea, candana are used. The raw-materials (parts of plants) will be grinded and made paste of them. The paste then applied on a reed (8 fingers long) for drying. The dried stuff then put into smoking pipe and lit after putting little fat. The pipe is normally 36 fingers long. If the therapy is for head evacuation and lubrication the pipe length used to be 24 and 32 fingers long. The pipe has to be with three punches and little wide mouth to put the smoking material. For head and nose disorders the smoke is inhaled through the nose. For throat disorders the inhalation is through mouth. The smoke of nostril-through smoking has to be exhaled through mouth.
Medicated oil snuffing through nostrils is employed as a supportive measure to dispel mental disorders.
