Modalities for Food Consumption
Charaka Samhita prescribes some ritual-bound modalities for food consumption. Have food only after taking bath. Make offerings to the fire, preceptors, fore-fathers, guests, dependents, recite mantras and wear jewels on the hand. Rinse the mouth, wash the face, feet and hand before eat is a must. Consume no curd during night and stale foods any time. Rice and pulses are easily digestible as against grain flour, black gram, meat etc which take longer time for digestion. The items taking longer time for digestion should be consumed more, but only rational quantity. Dinner should always be of light items meaning easily digestible and do not consume in bulk.
