The Mohiudeen Mosque is located in the Palayam Market in Kozhikode (Calicut), Kerala.
It is the only one of its kind in entire Kerala, which is equipped with close circuit TV.
This is to enable the Imam to deliver his sermons to a large number of people spread out on different storeys at the same time.
The Arab traders, introduced Islam to Kerala, during the eighth or ninth century.
The Muslims in Kerala are one of the ancient Muslim community that exists in India. Thus Kerala is also home to some of the ancient mosques in India and most of them are important pilgrimage centers for Kerala Muslims.Kerala came in contact with Islam, perhaps earlier than in many parts of India. The mosques in Kerala are generally covered structures, with walls made of laterite blocks, consisting of a large prayer hall in the centre with covered verandhas on all the sides. Charachira Jama Masjid, Nainar Mosque, Kanjiramattom Mosque, Cheraman Jama Masjid, Odathil Mosque, Malik Dinar Mosque attract pilgrims from all over the country.
Most mosques themselves are unpretentious monuments and utilitarian in character. The mosques in Kerala are generally covered structures with a large prayer hall in the centre and verandhas on all the sides.
The closed prayer hall and sloping tiled roofs have been used to combat the phenomenon of heavy rainfall
The trend of constructing magnificent mosques, of the kind prevalent in north India, never reached the shores of Malabar. Here the Arabic simplicity of structural form combined with the indigenous style of Kerala, to give rise to a new type of mosque architecture.
