Anakkayam:
Situated on Manjeri-Perunthalmanna Road near Malappuram, Anakkayam is a small town engaged trading and commercial activities.
Manjeri:
Manjeri town is located beyond Anakkayam. Both are on same route. Its main vocation is trading and commerce.
Parapanangadi:
Parapanangadi is a small coastal town. Trading and commerce are its main vocation.
Erumamunda :
The village is located near Nilambur on the bank of Chaliyar River.
The village’s livelihood is from rubber related industries.
The famous Adyan Para waterfall in the breathtaking surroundings is nearby.
Erumamunda has a Higher Secondary School to meet the middle level education need. For lower and upper level education the village depends on other nearby places.
Angadipuram:
Located 1.5 km from Perinthalmanna, Angadipuram is a pilgrim center of reckoning.
The famous Thirumandhamkunnu temple and Thali temple brought the village the status of a pilgrim center where hundreds of devotees pour in daily. Thirumandhamkunnu temple where the deity is Bhagawathi was built by erstwhile rulers of Valluvanad. The deity of the temple was their Kuladaivam (family god).
The Hindu dominated village is totally agrarian.
Chamravattom:
The village is 11 km distanced from Tirur, the cultural hotspot of the district.
The oxy-filled greenish and scenic village is on the shores of Nila Nadhi (river) or say Bharatha Puzha (river).
In ancient times a saint named Sambaran used to meditate in the village. The place was known after his name. Gradually the name Sambaran coined to Sambaravattom and then to Chamravattom.
A temple dedicated to Ayyappa located 100 metres inside Nila used to witness beelines of Sabarimala pilgrims on their way to and back from Sabarimala.
Chamravattam has attained cent percent computer literacy. Under a project called Akshaya, Kerala State Information Technology Mission imparted computer operation knowledge to at-least one member of each family in the village.
The village is agriculture based.
Most of the inhabitants are Hindus.
Facilities for medium level education exist.
Chelambra:
The village situated in Kondotty Taluk is on NH 17.
The Hindu majority village has two Hindu shrines, namely, Elannummel Shiva temple and Thera Ganapathy temple.
Rest of the population is of Muslims who have a shrine known as Chelooppadam mosque.
The village has facilities up to high school level education.
Chelambra is an agrarian village.
===Chemmad:===Chemmad has capped town status. Presently a small town, it is developing fast. Location is 7 km east of Parapanangadi railway station.
In western part of the district Chemmad acts as a trade and commerce center to serve all the nearby villages.
Till a decade ago Chemmad was developed only to the extent of serving its own people. The scenario has changed now. It is now a resourceful source of multiple purposes for the villages around.
Chemmad has its own facilities for education, healthcare, literacy and the like.
Majority of the population is of Muslims followed by Hindus. Both the communities have their own shrines.
Edakkara
Edakkara is a hilly village located near Nilambur in15 km distance. Gudalur of Tamil Nadu is only 37 km away.
The village is a scenic beauty.
It has developed to a small town stature.
Occupaion of Edakkara is agriculture. The main produces are rubber, pepper, paddy and coconut.
A good number of youngsters have emigrated to Gulf States and other countries. Their fat salary income boosts the economy of the village.
The village has facilities for middle level education.
Majority of the population is of Muslims followed by Hindus and Christians.
Manjeri:
Manjeri is a developed town located 25 km from Kozhikode airport. In all senses Manjeri is the commercial capital of the district.
A cradle of national movement, Manjeri was there in the forefront from 1790 in the revolts against alien rules. Anakkayam within 4 km from Manjeri was the epicenter of 1921 uprising.
Ali Musaliyar, a spirited freedom fighter, was the son of Nellikkuth, an arm away place from Manjeri.
District Hospital, District Medical Office, District Court and many other government establishments of the district are sheltered in Manjeri.
Manjeri’s eastern side is hills-spread where All India Radio’s FM Station is located in College Kunnu. Pallancheri, hills dominated picturesque and serene place, lies south side. A Dam is there to hype the beauty of Pallancheri. Kadalundy River originated from the hills’ feet of eastern side snakes through Pallancheri to merge with Arabian Sea in the west.
Vetticode in the south is the location of prominent schools in the district. On the way to Vetticode the famous Kunnath temple is anchored.
Manjeri has education facilities up to college level.
Major chunk of the population is of Muslims. Hindus rank second.
Maranchery:
Maranchery is located in Ponnani Taluk. It is surrounded by Biyyam Kaayal (backwater), Nurani Puzha and Veliancode village.
The nearest railway station is Kuttipuram located 40 km away.
Famous freedom fighter late E Moidu Moulavi was the son of Maranchery.
The village is agrarian.
Middle level education facilities exist.
Majority of the population is of Muslims followed by Hindus.
Myladi
The village has undergone developments to become a small township. It is placed between Akampadam and Nilambur.
The access to Myladi is through a large bridge.
Rivers, forests and estates filled village is exemplary scenic and oxy-rich.
The Adyanpara waterfall is just 10 km away.
Christians, most of them migrated from south Kerala, share majority in population followed by Hindus and Muslims.
Middle level education facilities exist in this agrarian village.
Nedumkayam:
Forests-ridden Nedumkayam is located 18 km from Nilambur.
Nedumkayam is famous for its rich rain forests.
A wooden built rest house by the hands of British here is an ideal spot to have bird’s eye view of Nedumkayam where elephants, deer and other creatures grazing in the forests can easily be spotted.
Entry to the forest zone is regulated by Forest Department. Permission from them is mandatory to visit the forests.
An elephant training centre functions here.
Nedumkayam is destined to become a part of second eco-tourism destination of Kerala. Nilumbur including Nedumkayam is the selected location for it.
Nilambur
Nilambur has grown to a town long back. The town is the headquarters of Nilambur Taluk.
Nilampur Road railway station is one of the important railway stations in Kerala.
Nilambur is accredited as a trade and commerce centre for the villages surrounding it.
It is economically well placed and most of the people lead luxurious life.
Nilambur town where Kovilakam temple is housed is famous for Nilambur Vettekaran Paattu (classical ritual folk art).
The town is famed on more than one count. The oldest teak plantation in the world, tallest and biggest teak tree in the world and large bamboo forests – all these are Nilambur’s own.
Adyan Paara waterfalls located only few kilometers away. Near to it, an ideal picnic spot called Devasuram exists.
Manjeeni Colony created by the government for “Cholanaikkas” who are ancient tribe whose new generation still lives in deep forest caves is an asset for archeological study and research is located in Nilambur.
Nilambur has enough facilities for education and health care.
Pudiyangadi :
Pudiyangadi, more commonly called BP Angadi, has graduated to a small town status. It is placed near Tirur.
It is surrounded by scores of mosques.
Pudiyangadi mosque is very famous. The annual festival here, Nercha, is equally famous attracting thousands.
Scores of educational institutions anchored here have hyped the image of Pudiyangadi to crown the title ‘Education Capital of Tirur.’
In health care the place is time tested.
Lion’s share of population is of Muslims. Hindus count second.
Tanur:
Tanur is a small coastal town progressed from a village. It was an earliest settlement of Portuguese.
It is widely believed that St Francis Xavier visited Tanur during 1546 AD.
Keraladeshapuram temple dedicated to Vishnu, one of the oldest Hindu shrines in Kerala, is housed 3 km south of Tanur. In north of Tanur yet another temple of fame known as Trikkaikattu temple dedicated to Shiva is located. A Math established by Sri Adi Sankaracharya has also located here.
Tanur has a beautiful beach.
Hindus are in majority followed by Muslims.
Tanur has educational facilities.
