Nasya
Nasya is the ayurvedic procedure whereby the medicine is administered through the nasal passage.It is useful in eliminating the impurities above the shoulders.A healthy person can also practice this procedure.
What is Nasya procedure
Nasya karma is usually done at 7.30-8.30 in the morning or 5pm or 6pm in the evening on empty stomach.The patient should satisfy the natural urges before nasya.Then the patient is made to sit comfortably on a chair.Oil is applied on the head, neck, shoulder, chest and mild massage is given. Fomentation is done by using steam.When sufficient sweat appears,patient is made to lie on his back on the table.The head level should be lower than the feet level.The medicine is warmed before use and it is administered in to the nostrils with the help of a dropper.The patient should draw the medicine and should turn the head to either side.And should try to bring out the kapha and spit out until the throat is completely cleared.Then medicated smoking is performed.After this the mouth should be gargled with medicated decoction.Then the patient is advised to take rest and have light food after 1 hour.
