Nileshwaram is the cultural capital of Kasaragod,Kerala.
It derives its name from 'Neelakandeswaran' which means Lord Shiva.
Nileshwaram is famous for its festivals and art. The Poorothsav and Kalasothsav in Mannampurathukavu along with the festival in Thaliyil temple here are famous.
It is said that Neleshwar Rajas who were from the Kolathiris family ruled Nileshwaram.
It is about 14 Km from Bekal Fort.
The cultural and historical feel of the place attracts many visitors.
