Pamba River

Pamba a holly river near Sabrimala is a river of religious significance, it originates from Peerumedu. It originates about 1650 mtr height from the sea level. The length of the river is 74.02 km’s, the Aranmula Boat Race organized here is very famous. Pamba has many rivers combining it starting from Kakkiyar, Azhuthayar, Kakkatar and Kallar all its tributaries.

The famous temple of Lord Ayyappa Sabrimala is located on the banks of river Pamba. Huge number of devotees heading towards Sabrimala do take a dip in this holy river before moving forward. During the Mandala season daily lakhs of devotees takes holy dip in this river. Pamba is covered densely with forest and it’s the third largest river of Kerala.

Other than that the well-known rice producing place Kuttanad gets water from this own river. After traveling a distance of 177.08 Km’s the river merges into Vembanad lake. Two dams, Pambayar and Kakiyar are constructed on the banks of Pamba River.
