Pharmacology
A very detailed description on both herbal and chemical combinations was provided for the first time in Char aka Samhita. It is commented that no plant is without a pharmacological use in Ayurveda , but the preparation makes it different .Five basic types of preparation is described.decoctions , herbal extracts were the early forms.Powders , tablets, syrups,oils are the new outlooks .plants are grouped based on their systemic actions.There are single drugs and also combinations prescribed for organic diseases.Each combinations are very specific in action .While describing the treatment of each disease , very perfect compilation is provided for each stage of the pathogenesis .There are chemical ingredients found in some preparations .The chemistry of purification of chemical compounds and extraction of their active ingredients were known even at that time.
