Sirodhara
The word Dhara means,continuous pouring of medicated liquid over the body.Sirodhara is a unique kerala special treatment.It is beneficial in alleviating the tridosha's.Pouring the medicated oil or liquid on the head from a particular distance by the help of a dhara vessel is performed in this treatment.
What is the Sirodhara procedure
For sirodhara a structure similar to drip stand is used to suspend the vessel that holds dhara fluid.The vessel has a hole at its bottom.A wick hangs down through this hole and the liquid is allow to flow down through this.Above this wick a coconut shell with serrated edge should be kept facing downwards to guide the flow of the liquid. The treatment starts with the application of the oil on the head and the body.Then the varti(roll of cloth)is tied around the head of the patient to prevent the leakage of the liquid.The patient is made to lie down on his back and dhara vessel is suspended about 5cm above his forhead.Then medicated oil is poured in to the dhara vessel.pouring is to be done very slowly to prevent the scattering.The vessel should be moved to either side of the forhead during the treatment.After the procedure hot water bath is given to the patient. Duration of the treatment is about 45 minutes to one hour.
