Saraswati

Saraswati is called the mother of knowledge. She is the Hindu goddess of the creative arts and the Vedas(holy scripts). She is Vak Devi (goddess of speech).

It is customary for children to worship Saraswati before they are initiated into the world of letters and learning in the traditional manner. She represents intelligence, consciousness, cosmic knowledge, creativity, education, enlightenment, music, the arts, and power.

She is mainly associated with the color white, which signifies the purity of true knowledge and purity.

Saraswati is usually depicted riding a swan or a peacock, with a Mala (garland),and a palm-leaf scroll(symbol of knowledge),held in her hands.

Below is a Sanskrit Slokam (hymn) to invoke Saraswati to improve one's memory and concentration in studies.

The Slokam reads –

Saraswati Namasthubhyam Varade Kamarupini

Vidyarambam Karishyami

Siddhur Bathume Sadha

The devotees of Saraswati recite this Slokam daily with absolute faith in its outcome.
