Thattekkad
Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is situated in Kothamangalam of Ernakulam district on the banks of Periyar river. The Sanctuary is a budding ground of few of the rarest species of birds in India, it is Kerala’s first officially recognized bird sanctuary. It has lush green landscape and favourable tropical climate for birds, it has some three hundred species of forest and water birds.
The weather here remains pleasant throughout the year with monsoon between May and July. Avoid visiting the park during monsoon as most area here becomes inaccessible. The evergreen forest and grassland make the a picturesque site, with rare birds like falcon, white breasted water hen, gray jungle owl and many other birds can be sited here.
Ernakulam-At_A_Glance \ Thattekkad is also rich in teak, rosewood and mahagony trees. The place attracts many tourists from all over the world to get close with the wildlife in their own habitat, with ecology in its best.
