Located in the middle of Kerala. Cultural capital of Kerala. Capital of gold jewellery trade in Kerala. Town is with many historical credentials.

(1) Vadakumnathan Temple. Big Temple. Built by Parasurama. Venue of famous Thrissur Pooram (festival).

(2) Thrissur Pooram. Pooram (temple festival) of Poorams. hundreds of thousands attend.

(3) Pulikkkali (play of tigers). Stage managed by youngsters. Turning themselves as tigers. During the 4th day of Onam.

(4) Shakthan Thampuran Palace: Houses Archaeological Museum. Many things to go by.

(5) Zoo: 500 metres from Shakthan Thampuran Palace.

(6) National History Museum. Within the compound of zoo.

(7) Marthoma Mariam Big Church. Within the town. Chaldean Syrian Church.

(8) Lourdes Cathedral. 3rd big Church in Thrissur.

(9) Kerala Sahitya Academy. Near Town Hall. Centre of Malayalam Literature.

(10) Sangeetha Nataka Academy. Few metres from Sahitya Academy. Preserves and trains in the arts of music, dance, drama and folk arts.

(11) Kerala Lalithakala Academy. Few metres from Sangeetha Nataka Academy. Workshops, artists’ camps and exhibitions.

Thiruvillamala: 28 km north of Thrissur. Punarjani Noozhal (rebirth crawling). In November/December.

Wadakkanchery: 17 km north of Thrissur, on the way to Thiruvillamala. Ayur Yogashram (Ayurveda).

Cheruthuruthy: 32 km north of the town. Kerala Kalamandapam. Imparts training in Kathakali, Mohaniyattom, Thullal and other art forms of Kerala’s own.

Thaikkattusseri (Ollur): 5 km south of Thrissur. Ashtavaidyan Thaikkattu Mooss Vaidyaratnam Oushadasala.

Palakkal: 7 km from Thrissur, on the way to Oorakam. Vinayaka Ayurveda Nursing Home.

Thayamkulangara (Cherpu): 10 km from Thrissur, near Oorakam. Amrutha Ayurvedic Heritage Centre.

Arattupuzha: 16 km south of Thrissur. Arattupuzha Temple. Very famous.

Oorakam: 3 km before and on the way to Arattupuzha. Ammathiruvadi Temple.

Karuvannur: 1.5 km from Oorakom. K V Padmnabha Swamy (Astrologer).

Irinjalakuda: 11 km south of Oorakam.

(1) Koodalmanikyam Kshetram. Festival April/May.

(2) 3 km east of Koodalmanikya Kshetram. Viswanathapuram Subrmanya Temple. Festival January/December.

(4) A cultural centre to document some of the less popular traditional art forms including shadow puppetry, female monoacting and mime.

(5)The nearby village of Nadavaramba is well known for bell metal oil lamp casting.

Kunnamkukam: 25 km west of Thrissur.

Palayur: Little away from Guruvayur. Palayur Church. The oldest in India.

Chettuva: Few km south of Palayur on NH 17. Raja Island ( Ayurveda).

Triprayar: 23 km from Thrissur between Guruvayur and Kodungalloor.

(1) Sreerama Temple. Festival November/December.

(2) Dr P R Jayathilakan. Ayurveda treatment for all heart ailments. Located 1 km west of Sreerama Temple.

Peringottukara: 3 km east of Triprayar.

(1) Kanadi Chathan Temple.

(2) Vishnubharathy Swamy (Astrologer).

Valapad: 2 km south of Triprayar. T G Sreeranganath (Astrologer).

Edamuttam: 6 km south of Triprayar. Vazhpully Sree Rajarajeswari Temple.

Chentrapinni: 3 km from Edamuttam. K G Sakthidharan Panicker (Astrologer).

Kodungalloor: 25 km south of Triprayar.

(1) Kodungallur Bhagwathy Temple. The famous 'Bharani'festival is in April. It is well known for its outlandish and dramatic Tantric rituals. Low caste villagerrs cavort drunkenly around the temple singing obscene songs for the goddess.

(2) Cheraman Juma Masjid. Oldest Mosque in India.

(3) Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva Temple. Festival in February/March.

Azhikode: Near Kodungallur. Marthoma Pondifical Shrine.

Peechi & Vazhani: 15 km east of Thrissur.

(1) Twin Reservoirs. Amidst scenic jungles.

(2) Wildlife Sanctuary. In the middle of Reservoirs.

Chimmony: 25 km south east of Thrissur.

(1) Chimmony Dam. Amidst trees-studded hills.

(2) Wildlife Sanctuary. Hide and seek behind jumbo trees and hills.

Kodakara: 20 km south of Thrissur.
