Thumpoly is located 90 kms from Kochi International airport and 6 kms from Alappuzha (Alleppey), in Kerala, South India.
With the Arabian sea on one side and a small lake on the other, Thumpoly is blessed with beautiful sandy beaches. It is a natural habitat of many rare birds.
The parish of Thumpoly is renowned for its St. Thomas church, which is also dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The feast of Our Lady lasts for 11 days ending on December 8th.The statue of 'Our Lady' of Immaculate Conception in the church is called 'Kappal Karathi Amma' or 'the mother who came by ship'
There are fishing villages on the beaches. The local population are also involved in coir making.
Since Thumpoly lies in the region of the backwaters, it is an ideal place to take a trip in the huge 'kettuvalloms' or country houseboats which used to ply the waterways in earlier times.
