Vaisya is the third strata in the hierarchy of the caste system which made up the fabric of Indian society. Traditionally farming, cow protection and business are the natural work or dharma for the Vaisya, so the traders, businessmen, farmers would belong to this caste. Their dharma also demands study, sacrifice, and the giving of alms. They were expected to be specialists in their branch or trade, whether jewelry and precious metals, spices, cloth, furnishings or whatever else it might be
