23.Vamana
23.1 What is Vamana
Vamana is one among the body purification procedure,which comes under panchakarma.In this procedure the vitiated dosha are eliminated from the body through the oral route.
23.2 What is Vamana procedure
Abhyanga,snehapana,steam bath,utklesana(administrating kapha increasing food items)are done as pre-operative procedures. Vamana is done on the next day morning (between 5am and 7am)after utklesana.After proper evacuation of bowels and urine patient is made to sit on the chair.A basin is kept infront of the patient to collect the vomitus.Initially 3-5 glasses of milk is administered,then the medicine which induce vomitting is given.Afterwards the patient has to drink the milk as much as possible.The patient is advised to be ready for vomitting and wait about 20-30 minutes. Vomitting is continued till pitta appears in the vomitus.After completing the vamana patient should wash his face and mouth with hot water.After taking rest for few minutes,medicated smoking is performed.The patient is advised to take rest till the evening and after that should take the hot water bath.
23.3 What are the indications of Vamana
skin diseases,Insanity,Elephantiasis,Asthma.
