25.Vasti
25.1 What is Vasti
Vasti is the most important procedure among panchakarma.It is the treatment for vata predominant diseases and an excellent treatment to mitigate all the doshas.In this medicated oil or decoction are injected in to the colon through the anus using an instrument called vasti netra(enema nozzle).Vasti is mainly devided in to Asthapana vasti and anvasana vasti.
25.2 What is Vasti procedure
On the day of asthapana vasti the patient should satisfy his natural urges in the morning.oil massage and steam bath is given on the abdomen,low back region.Anal region is lubricated with oil.Then the tip of the instrument for vasti is introduced to the anus and vasti bag is squeezed slowly and allowed to enter the medicinal decoction in to the colon.Then the patient should lie on his back,expecting vega.As soon as he feels the urge and should evacuate the bowel.Soon after the complete evacuation of the bowel patient should take hot water bath.After bath food should be taken immediately.
Anvasana basti is introduced immediately after the meals.In this medicated oil,ghee or bone marrow is introduced in to the rectum through the enema instrument.There is no harm if the oil remain inside up to nine hours.if it comes out immediately, the process is repeated.
25.3 What are the indications of Vasti
Arthritis,Neurological problem,Low back ache,Infertility,complaints of alimentary system.
