Vedas

Vedas are ancient scriptures of the Hindu teachings, and an integral part. Vedas showcase the divinity, they reflect language of God. They are ancient texts that contain hymns, incantations, and rituals from ancient India. Initially Vedas were considered to be so sacred that they were only transmitted orally from one generation of brâhmans to the next. The passages of the Vedas were eventually written in Sanskrit.

There are four Vedas, the Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda, they depict ritualistic teaching and sacred knowledge. The Vedas have a long history, and in Indian writing it is the most ancient literary works. Vedas cover all fields of knowledge and spiritual text.

The Four Vedas:

  • Rig Veda (Book of mantra): Rig Veda is said to be the oldest of the Vedas, other Vedas are based on it and consist of various hymns from it. Rig Veda thus consists of a thousand such hymns of different seers, each hymn averaging around ten verses. The Rig Veda is the oldest book in Sanskrit or any Indo-European language.
  • Sama Veda (Book of song): Sama Veda is a collection of Melodies (saman), the hymns in the Sama Veda are used as musical notes. The text of Sama Veda are reduced version of the Rig Veda. The essence of Sama Veda is in its musical annotation and rendering. It represents the ecstasy of spiritual knowledge and the power of devotion.
  • Yajur Veda (Book of rituals): Yajur Veda comprises of prose prayers and the sacrificial formulae (yajus) which serves as a guidebook to the priest who executes sacrificial acts muttering the prayers. The resembles to the ancient Egypt’s ‘’Book of the Dead’’.
  • Atharva Veda (Book of spell): Atharva Veda is the last of the Vedas, it contains many hymns from the Rig Veda, it is more over valuable information regarding science & technology, herbal cures, controlling of natural calamities(getting of rain,etc.,) asthra sasthra vidhyas(defence) & control of negative vibrations. Atharva Veda is not available in texts or books as has valuable contents, so it is kept in secret or sutchuma form.
