Area: 2132 sq. km Population: 761,195 Altitude: 700 - 2100 m above sea level

Mist-clad, mountains spread and valleys-lit Wayanad district is bounded east by Nilgiri in Tamil Nadu and Mysore in Karnataka, north by Coorg district of Karnataka, south by Malappuram and west by Kozhikode and Kannur districts.

Kalpetta: 70 km from Kozhikode. Capital of Wayanad. Ayurkendra Ayurveda Hospital.

Vythiri: 62 km from Kozhikode. Hill stations and Waterfalls galore. Similar hills, similar gorges, similar ravines.

Lakkidi: 5 km east of Vythiri and 17 km east of Kalpetta. Gateway to Wayanad. Beauty all around.

Sulthan Bathery: Away from Kalpetta towards north on NH 212.

Ambalavayal: 5 km from Edakkal and 15 km from Sulthan Bathery. Near Ambukutti hill. Heritage museum.

Heritage Museum: 7 km east of Edakkal. At Ambalavayal. Heritage Museum. Tribal life oriented.

Chetalayam Falls: 12 km from Sulthan Bathery. No summer Falls. Trekking lovely.

Lower Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary: 17 km north of Sulthan Bathery. At Muthanga. Rain forest.

Suchipara Falls: 22 km from Kalpetta. Three-pronged, equatorial forest-hidden Waterfalls.

Kanthanpara Falls: Not far away from Suchipara. Watchable from Suchipara.

Pulpally: 20 km west of Sulthan Bathery. Sitadevi Temple. Famous.

Trikaipatta: Few km from Sulthan Bathery en-route to Kalpetta. Shiva Temple.

Meenmutty Falls: 29 km from Kalpetta, off Ooty Road. 2 km forest trek to the Falls. Awards jolts and joys.

Pookote Lake: 1 km from Vythiri. Hangout of holiday makers.

Karalad Lake: 6 km from Vythiri. Seven acre spread. Nature’s pet.

Chembara Peak: Not far away from Vaithiri. 5 hours’ trek. Obsession for many. 5 hours trek schedule to reach the peak of 6890 ft.

Thirunelly: 34 km from Mananthavady in north Wayanad.

Kurava Dweep (Kurava Isle): Away from Thirunelly. Stream water trekking. Amazing. Only Katunayika tribes. Modernity untouched. Civilisation unheard.
