Ashoka Sumadra Beach Kovalam
Ashoka or Samudra beach sits at the north end of the set of beaches known as Kovalam
Ashok or Samudra Beach sits at the Northern end of the Kovalam set of beaches and is the quietest and perhaps least interesting. It is overlooked at each end by smart hotels: the Leela to the South and the Taj to the North. There is a road that runs behind the beach and so visiting coaches often disgorge their people onto the beach for a swim. There is something both rather foolhardy and rather brave about women swimming in metres and metres of Sari silk in the sea.
Life on the beach is rather quiet and it lacks the sense of community and bustle of the beaches further south. The south end of the beach is protected by the bluffs of the Leela hotel and offers more sheltered swimming.
