REMEDIES FOR COMMON INFANCY/CHILD AILMENTS
Napkin rash is a common problem faced during infancy. It can happen due to various causes. Fungal infection, allergy from chemicals in the soap or baby oils used etc are the most common causes. Chamomile oil is a proven remedy for this problem. Add 2 drops of chamomile oil in 10 ml base oil of sweet almond and massage gently and lightly after bath.
Colic is severe griping pain in the belly. It is caused due to gas trap in belly during digestion. This can easily be prevented. After feeding hold the baby with its chest resting on the chest of the mother and slowly stroke the torso. As an alternative, apply a blend made of 15 ml base oil and one drop each of chamomile and peppermint oil on the stomach and massage gently and lightly clockwise. This is a fine remedy.
Though it will take few weeks, the flaky-red skin will heel in normal course. In case it takes longer time, there is remedy. Apply on the scalp after bath the blend of 10 ml sweet almond oil as base oil and one drop each of lavender and chamomile oils.
Sneezing is an integral symptom of cold. And sneezing is a defense system to discard undesired elements entered in the respiratory system. Few sneezing and little nose watering warrant no medical assistance. If the nose is blocked the child will experience breathing difficulty. In such case, steam inhalation of eucalyptus oil is a good remedy. If there is chest congestion, massage the chest with one drop of Frankincense oil mixed with 5 ml of Sesame oil. The result will be quick and firm.
Severe itching is the characteristic of eczema. Itching leads to scratching and scratching leads to abrasions wherein bacteria may set in and cause secondary infection. Infection creates lesions from which fluid will ooz. Massage with the blend of 30 ml sweet almond oil and one drop each of lavender, chamomile and geranium oil. This will work only in initial stage. For advanced cases some other remedy should be found by consulting a physician.
In early stage of childhood there is a tendency to lay the hands on anything and bring to the mouth. In most of the cases the items may be undesired or dirt. When they eat or swallow such items it leads to loose motions, fever etc. This action of the child is alled teething. If the objects brought to the mouth are hard or sharp it may cause injury to the gums. In such case, massage the gum with a blend of one drop of lavender and 50 ml water. Massage the entire body and face with the blend of 15 ml sweet almond oil and one drop each of lavender and chamomile. If fever is there, avoid massage.
Cuts, Abrasions, Bruises & Boils
Drip 2-3 drops of lavender oil on some cotton wool. Dab the same on the affected area thrice a day. They will be cured in 2-3 days.
