“Mundu” is the traditional dress of the men in Kerala.
Keralites wear the mundu on formal occasions such as at the time of marriage and on other solemn occasions. It is a three to four meter long cotton cloth with a silk border.
It is doubled and draped around the waist and is the formal attire of the men in Kerala. It is mandatory for the men to wear a mundu if they wish to enter some of the temples in Kerala. This traditional dress also describes the Keralite and his culture.
A colourful “kaili” similar to the Malaysian “sarong” is worn as casual wear..
