Religions in Kerala
Kerala has three religions –
- Hindu,
- Christian,
- Muslim.
Out of a total population of 32 million, 60% are Hindus, 20% Christians, 20% Muslims.
Malappuram and Kozhikode are Muslim majority districts. Kottayam, Idukki and Pathanamthitta are Christian majority districts, while Alappuzha, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram are Hindu majority districts. All the districts have all the three communities represented. In business orientation Christians come first, Hindus second and Muslims third. In employment orientation Hindus come first, Christian second and Muslims third.
What makes Kerala special is that all the three communities inter-mingle in cultural and religious festivities. Unlike other parts of India, there is minimal friction and antipathy between the different religious communities.
