Starting from Alappuzha (Alleppey) south of Cochin and opening onto Lake Vembanad this is an ideal introduction to the life of the backwaters. The Kerala houseboat is a converted rice-barge of 80' length. Reclining on cushions while cruising through quiet canals, you'll pass through paddy fields grazed by ducks, local markets, toddy shops, temples and churches. The houseboat cruise will take you along the backwaters, coconut groves and villages.

If interested you can get down on land for a walk for visiting the villages or to relax at the coconut groves. It has an uplifted platform with a bed, behind the captain, to see around the place. The boat will halt at lake side for night stay.

You will have a captain, oars man and a cook with you on the boat. Ask the captain for fishing rods and the cook will prepare your catch.The cruise starts at 12:00 noon with lunch and ends by morning 09:30 after breakfast.

Alleppey - Alleppey :
Check in Alleppey - cruise through Punnamada Lake - visit the Chavara Bhavan, olden wooden house - enjoy the panoramic views of paddy fields, narrow canals and coconut lagoons - visit 400 year old Champakulam church - view the 110 feet long snake boat. Night stay will be in the middle of the Lake.

Itinerary

Alleppey Round -1 night - Start Cruise and reach Kayal by 1 PM. Anchor and have lunch. Start Cruise Again by 3 PM and reach Champakulam by 4:30 PM. Stop over visit Champakulam Snake boat, church, village and market and cruise starts again at 5 PM, reach Kanjipadam by 6 PM, anchor for night. Next morning after breakfast cruise back to Alleppey and reach jetty by 9:30 AM.

Alleppey Tours - One Night Cruise

Day 01: On the 1st morning of your tours to Kerala Backwaters in Kerala, South India you go on a leisure houseboat cruise in the southerly direction on the Kerala backwaters on the Pallathuruthy river then the Pukaitha river and Pullangady and you finally reach Champakulam. Once in Champakilam you go on tours to the Champakulam church that is more than 200 years old. You also go on guided tours to the Kottaram temple.

You continue your cruise on the Kerala backwaters on a Kerala houseboat or a Kettuvallom. You go on a tour to the Nedumudy that happens to be a busy local market in this part of Kerala, South India. Your leisure cruise continues till you reach the Munnattumugham village and explore this natural haven and the simple lifestyle of the local people. You spend the night on board the houseboat.

Day 02: On the morning of the 2nd day of your tours to the Kerala Backwaters you have a sumptuous breakfast and then cruise back to Alleppey in Kerala, South India. This houseboat cruise on the Kerala backwaters takes you through a number of villages that lie on the banks of the Kerala backwaters such as Chennamkery, Pallathuruthy, Kainary and Kuppapuram. Once you reach and disembark from the houseboat at the Alleppey Finishing point jetty your tour guide arranges for a car for you to continue your journey onwards.
