Chandragiri
Chandragiri lies 3 kms south of Kasargod town. It has a large square fort situated high above the Chandragiri river on its southern bank. The fort was built in 17th century by Shivappa Nayaka of Bedanore and established his authority over the area and built a chain of forts. The river stands as the traditional boundary between Kerala and the Tuluva Kingdom. The fort offers a breathtaking view of the Arabian sea and the river.It is also a vantage point to watch the sunset. There is a beautiful bridge over the river at Thekkil, five miles from Chandragiri. A mosque is situated nearby and the view of the bridge with the mosque in the background is really fascinating sight during the drive from Kannur to Kasargod through NH 17.
The ancient Kizhur Sastha Temple near the fort celebrates a grand annual festival called Pattulsavam. Also, the longest railway tunnel passes through the Chandragiri hills.
The boat club conducts trips to nearby palmgroves and islands.
The nearest railway station is at Kasargod and the nearest airport is at Mangalapuram, 50 kms from Chandragiri.
