Pallom

Pallom is a small village on the outskirts of Kottayam on the Kottayam Trivandrum route in Kerala.The State Highway the M.C. Road runs through the village

One of the earliest schools in Kerala, the CMS Middle school (Currently CMS Higher Secondary School) and the Buchanan Institutions started by Henry Baker were set up here.It is also said that the first graduate in Kerala was from Pallom.

The Syrian Christian community has a major presence in Pallom. In earlier times they enjoyed the patronage of the local kings. The large number of churches here that testify to this. St.John the Baptist CSI Church is known for its architecture. St.Paul's Orthodox Church, is very old and has a history of over 150 years. St. Ignatius JSO Church, and St. Andrew's CSI Church are two of the other bigger churches in Pallam.

This village is also famous for the Toddy Shop "Karimpumkala Toddy Shop". Toddy is the sap of the coconut (palm) tree, a healthy drink which is slightly intoxicating when fermented. Besides toddy this toddy shop was also famous for the fish,beef,shrimp and chicken curries and tapioca or kappa. The back waters lie on the western side of the village.

A very old light house (called Munroe lighthouse was set up here by Col.Munroe, the erstwhile British Resident of Travancore. The village is a very quiet and calm place, although it is just 7 km from the town of Kottayam.

The place is well connected by roads to all parts of Kerala, the nearest railhead is Kottayam and closest airport is Cochin International Airport
