Valliathura Pier

Valiathura Pier

Located 10-km away from Kovalam. It is mainly used by local fishermen. During monsoon sea turns violent, especially near the shores, when fishermen cannot venture out in the boats from the beach. To beat this obstacle they carry the catamarans to the edge of the Pier from where they throw them into the sea. Then they jump into the sea and swim to the catamarans. For fishermen this is simple routine affair. For others it is feat deserving admiration. Many people gather to watch this feat.

Pier is a vantage point to see the long coastline upto Kovalam in the south and upto Shanmugham beach in the north. Shanmugham beach is also in a fishing village.
