The Zamorins are the descendants from the Ernad Utaiyavar, it is the Zamorins who were responsible to make calicut an important sea-port and a trade hub from the fourteenth century. The Zamorins during that period were on the higher trend of conquering and annexing kingdoms like Beypore, Parappanad, Valluvanad, Manjeri, Malapuram and many more. They invaded many place and assumed the role of patron (Rakshapurusha). They were powerful and victorious warriors. In the early 14th century Kozhikode emerged as the center of independent kingdom which was ruled by the Zamorins, and thus it later named as city of Zamorins.
