Mithai Theruvu

Mithai Theruvu, located in Calicut, a city in north Kerala. (also known as SM street) is the famous “sweetmeat street” of the city.

This street is not only a sweet street it is also the business hub of the city. Shops stand here cheek to jowl. Their narrow entrances belie the vast interiors. Stationary to building materials to jewellery- everything is available in Mithai Street.

A popular sweet called the Kozhikodan halwa is available here and obviously this is how it got its name.Calicut or Kozhikode as it is now called is famous for these ‘halwas” or sweets. They come in a variety of colours such as green, red, black and yellow and each colour has a different flavor. Freshly fried banana chips are another specialty of this street.
