BHUVANESHWARI

Bhuvaneswari is the Parasakti (prime force) manifested as the phenomenal world. Bhuvana means world and Ishwari means queen. As queen she ensures welfare of her subjects.

There are ten Mahavidyas. Bhuvaneshwari is one among them. Kali, Bhairavi, Shodashi, Tara, Dhumavati Dhumavati, Chinnamasta, Mantanqi, Kamala, and Bagla Mukhi are the rest. Mahavidyas represent Divine Mother in some form of manifestation and are regarded as Vidyas (knowledge) on varying approaches to knowledge, particularly Thantric knowledge.

There was a dispute between Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva as to who is supreme among them. When the dispute persisted the Divine Mother took them to her abode to convince them that they have different duties to perform – creation for Brahma, preservation for Vishnu and destruction for Shiva and told them that each of them is supreme in their respective field.

Bhuvaneshwari’s bija sound and Maya’s bija sound are similar. Divine power is attained by the worship of Bhuvaneshwari. Maya (illusion) is the creation of the Divine Leela (play). Such a situation changes the emotions to good.
