New airport to come up at Aranmula

plane.jpg

Kochi, March 18

The past one year has been the most remarkable years for the booming aviation sector in the state. With already three international airports in its kitty, this God’s Own Country is moving ahead with many future plans to add more air terminals.

In this initiative it was informed that another new airport will take shape in the next three years at Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. This announcement was made by the Aranmula Aviation Chairman P S Nair. This new airport project will be constructed in about 400 acres of land and the first phase of this airport will cost Rs 400 crore.

With a 10,000-ft long runway, the airport will be a great help to the people of Kottayam, Kollam and Pathanamthitta and adjoining areas. The Mumbai based Aerobics is the firm which has been given the task of preparing the project for this airport.

Even the two of the existing airports at Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode are being expanded for various reasons. And another new one is about to come up in Kannur district of Kerala. So in the coming years Kerala will get a number of newly and modernised airports. It will also help the tourism sector of Kerala with more connectivity and easy flying across the state.

what about the airport in kottayam? Is not Kottayam in between Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi? It was much better if they were to decide it to make it in Kottayam, so that the distance may be ecqual for those who are from Palai, as from Pathanamthitta.

It seems the road too is getting better. The govt. should do in such a way that like that of Ettumanoor-Pala highway, spend more money now than losing more money in few years, with on-going repairing-com-commission programme.

Hope one day, with all the resources and need Kerala, has the govt. may be able to realize something.

Aranmula is really an ideal location for an airport between Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. This project, if worked out successfully, will definitely attract more tourists to Pathanamthitta district. Moreover, this will be a hub for pilgrims coming to Sabarimala, Niranam & Edathwa churches.

This project will not only ease the travel needs of people visiting kerala but also give a facelift to the city of Pathanamthitta and surroundings. The location is perfect for an Airport. If this project goes well international travellers will now have another airport to consider when visiting Kerala. Hope the project is a success.

Millions of gallons water flown throught the Aranmula Pampa river since the Aranmula Airport project site is located. No concrete action is taken during these years. When will it come true? What hampers the promoters?Whether it is the greedy & cunning politians or the bureaucrats ?

Every passing days adds costs to whopping amounts over and above the projected original cost. May the Almighty bless the promoters with the courage to make it a reality soon.

It has come to know from a friend belongs to Aranmula that the project has reduced to an aviation school and sinked the idea of passenger airport due to lack of support from local politics as well as the government in particular. There is no news about this project in any media, hence one has to believe that the project is sinking. Any update ?

The Ministry of Defence has rejected the redesigned proposal. Still there is hope in the sense that the group should first try and get the clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests then they should try and use their money power and if required even lobbying to get the Defence Ministry clearance.  We as responsible citizens should try and get the much required support of  our Honourable Ministers Mr. A.K. Antony and Mr. Vylar Ravi for this project as the proposed site is closer to their home town and as responsible and experienced Ministers at the Centre they won’t find it difficult to get things through.  From our part all the well wishers/beneficieries of the project should come together and support our Collector Mr. Ravindran to organise public meetings and try and sort out the local issues so that the so called  chota netas (local leaders) should not try and disrupt the project for their own vested interests.
